I STOOD BY YOUR BED LAST NIGHT
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, 'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times Your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, That I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, As you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said, "It's me."
You looked so very tired, And sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, That I was standing there.
It's possible for me, To be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiles, I think you knew
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over. I smile and watch you yawning
And say, "Goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide
I'll rush across to greet you, And we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, There is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out. Then come to be with me.

My Golden Friend
All my life, you have been by my side
There when I laughed and there when I cried.
Yellow, fluffy hair is a golden retriever,
I smile and laugh whenever I see her.
She never barked but she kissed,
"Pet me," "Pet me," she would insist.
Her name is Flirt 'cause she was born on Valentine's Day,
But the sad part is, she died this May.
I will truly miss when she wags her tail,
Her love comes down as hard as hail.
Sometimes I hear her cry,
Waiting for me to join her in the sky

To our best friend and light of our life. We miss you so much and nothing seems quite the same without you. We'll think about you everyday, but especially when we hike and see a wonderful stream or river or a big pile of snow - those were your favorites! You were great on a trail - went ahead to check it out and then you either waited for us to catch up or came back to get us so.....
Keep forging those trails and then wait for us ---

Sam
To our family and friends:
September 5, 2009
It is with deepest sadness that Ed, Floyd and I tell you that Sammy passed away this morning. We are still in shock.
It started out as a wonderful day. We went for our family walk. Both Floyd and Sammy ate breakfast. Then as planned we were heading to the vet to have Floyd's stitches removed. We always load up Sammy first because blessed his heart he was not very coordinated. Ed got him in the SUV. He jumped up to the second row seats. We heard a yelp as Ed was getting Floyd in. It appeared he had slipped off the seat and got stuck. I ran around to the door and lifted his head up. He didn't look well. Almost as if he were going to black out. I yelled to Ed that he had been injured. We thought he had hurt his neck. I held him and comforted him; he went kind of limp. We opened the garage and began to transport both dogs to the vet. I made a call from the cell phone to let them know we were inbound with an injured animal. Sammy was very quiet on the ride and I just stroked and comforted him. He didn't look and his breathing was very shallow. When we arrived at the vet; they came out with a stretcher. They took him in as Ed, Floyd and I waited. About 15 minutes later the vet came in and said that Sammy has passed on. They had x-rayed his neck, and nothing was broke. They had defibrillated him and they could not revive him. He was pronounced deceased around 8:45.
We are heart broken. Sammy was a loving boy. He was a integral part of our family in his short stay with us. We are truly blessed that God let us have the privilege to take care of him.
Your prayers would truly be appreciated. As you can imagine, we will be laying low for a few days. This is really difficult to digest right now.
